CBD FAQs

Yes, CBD is legal!

Let’s start with the necessary clarifications. CBD is a natural component of the high-CBD Hemp strains of the plant containing minimal amounts of THC. With only trace amounts of THC, our hemp CBD oil is non-psychoactive, meaning it does not affect the mental process, and it is legal in all 50 states and most countries in the world.

In the USA the legal definition of “industrial hemp,” per Section 7606 of the Agricultural Appropriations Act of 2014, is “INDUSTRIAL HEMP — The term ‘‘industrial hemp’’ means the plant Cannabis sativa L. and any part of such plant, whether growing or not, with a delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol concentration of not more than 0.3 percent on a dry weight basis.”

What exactly is CBD oil?

CBD is an acronym for Cannabidiol (Can-a-bid-i-ol), an important naturally occurring class of molecules called cannabinoids attained in the plant genus Cannabis Sativa L. CBD contains up to 40% of the hemp plant and is one of over 60  compounds found in cannabis. Of these compounds, CBD and THC are generally present in the most significant concentrations and are consequently the most identified and analyzed. CBD is a non- psychoactive component of hemp that holds a wide range of benefits. Our bodies are composed of an endocannabinoid system (ECS) that uses naturally-occurring cannabinoids to support healthy cells. When there is an insufficiency of these cannabinoids, it can point to any number of health and medicinal ailments. CBD works to renew these natural cannabinoids, and therefore restore our cells to a balanced, healthy state.

What is the Endocannabinoid System?

We all have an endocannabinoid system (ECS).  The ECS consists of naturally-occurring endocannabinoids and their corresponding receptors (such as CB-1 and CB-2 receptors). Researchers have found that these natural cannabinoid compounds and their receptors exist in virtually every cell and organ system in the human body,  they perform a crucial role in regulating the body’s health and homeostasis. The ECS has been shown to help manage our sleep cycles, our inflammation and pain response, our immune response systems, and even our emotional well-being.

What's the difference between Hemp and Marijuana?

Technically, Marijuana and industrial Hemp are the same plants, with a genus and species name of Cannabis Sativa. Though they have an extremely different genetic profile. Industrial Hemp is continually a strain of Cannabis sativa, while marijuana can be Cannabis sativa, Cannabis indica, or Cannabis ruderalis. The important distinction is how industrial hemp has been cultivated as opposed to a marijuana form of Cannabis sativa. Typically, industrial hemp is very fibrous, with tall, sturdy stalks, and has very few flowering buds, while a marijuana strain of Cannabis sativa will grow shorter, bushier, with many flowering buds. Though, newer industrial hemp varieties in the USA are being bred to have more flowers and higher yields of cannabinoids and terpenes.

It’s important to remember that the marijuana plant has a high amount of THC and only a meager amount of CBD. Unlike  Hemp, that naturally has a very high amount of CBD and just a minimal amount of THC. Consequently, the cannabinoid profile of hemp is perfect for people searching for benefits from cannabis without the ‘high.’
